While I was at Aldi's, I did not think to check their green onion prices. Usually, lately, it is 10 green onions for 79 cents.

Have High Prices Killed the Joy of Trying New Restaurants? Diners are happy to pay higher bills at their favorite restaurants. But for many, the risk of eating somewhere new is no longer worth the cost.
NFriday wrote:On another board that I post on, somebody said they were just at Aldi's yesterday, and eggs there were $3.12 a dozen. Somebody said they were $2.99 a dozen at Jewel too. Apparently there are quite a few chickens getting sick, and egg prices are expected to go up. I bought a dozen eggs two weeks ago at Jewel, and they were $.99 a dozen. I am glad I bought them then. I still have half a dozen left. Hope this helps, Nancy
They're $1.89/dozen at Target
The true cost of food is far higher than what you spend at the checkout counter

I only consume or cook with a few a week so it’s a necessity not a luxury. Mass produced, pale, watery yolked , $.99 eggs are a non starter.

I buy air cooled chicken, premium oyster sauce, high quality eggs, better and best quality fish sauce, fresh spices that I throw out after a year or so, etc. I find the price of home cooked meals with high quality ingredients so much superior and cheaper than restaurant meals that I am happy to pay a premium for premium products.

This is a very interesting topic. I hope some others will chime in with their home meal costs.LynnB wrote:However, when I did the math I am spending “around”$28 per dinner for 3 people, usually with some leftovers for lunches. Not like we could dine out or carry-out for that $. And I do generally go for higher quality ingredients, including eggs.

This is why I kinda loosely pay attention to prices. If anyone asked me how much a bag of Doritos cost currently, I'd know it was north of $6. But I also know there's no chance in hell I'd pay that, because I can guarantee that within 2 weeks, that same bag will be closer to $2 at the same store. In no world do I NEED to buy Doritos no matter what the price is right now. I can wait.
