It’s (almost) August! Among other things, that means it’s time for the august Evanston Lunch Group's annual picnic, honoring the memory of the august LTHer, Tarte Tatin (aka Gail Adams).

We’ll convene Monday, August 19, 2024, 12:30 pm, on the picnic benches under the shelter in Evanston’s Larimer Park (parking on Crain St. one block east of Ridge, or on Oak Street south of Dempster).

As usual, we’ll get carryout from our favorite places. Attendees willing to pick up sharable carryout for the group should sign up; others are most welcome too, to share whatever is brought. I’ll try to keep a list of who’s picking up food, and from where, as well as others joining us. By checking the list the day before or so, those picking up carryout should be able to gauge the appropriate quantities to bring. We’ll do our best to settle up at the picnic. Typically we bring enough for about eight people.

    Again, all are welcome.

    Attendees — what they're bringing:

GAF: Food from Siunik Armenian Grill
    nr706: arepas from La Cochinita
nsxtasy: sugar kichel from Levinson's Bakery
moetchandon: To be determined and plates, etc.
    LHS: Korean Dumplings
    B2B: Fajita Pete's

Toast, as every breakfaster knows, isn't really about the quality of the bread or how it's sliced or even the toaster. For man cannot live by toast alone. It's all about the butter. -- Adam Gopnik

Cabbagehead and I will bring guacamole and a selection of tacos from El Terco Leon, mentions of which are hidden (at least from my searches) in the thread "Short List of Pretty Good Mexican." Credit to the lovely Giovanna for pointing out its merits.

First, big thanks to nr706 and moetchandon for their last-minute support! When we arrived at Larimer Park, we found that the park is being renovated, and was fenced off. What to do! The two of them offered their lovely backyard patio for our use, only a block from Larimer Park. Thank you so much!

Here are photos from the picnic. I apologize in advance for not knowing what everything in the photos is. I'll be happy to add captions below for anyone who would like to pass along labels for the items.

I remember GAF called this "lula", which made me think of the cafe in Logan Square.
