Tony's finer foods has had sales on frozen pizza. Vito & Nick's which is super thin crust was on sale recently and is quite good. Same for Screaming Scilian which piles on toppings and Edwardo's.

Have your own creative ideas for a pizza? Chicago’s iconic Home Run Inn is giving you a blank canvas to work with thanks to an offering that first turned heads over the holiday season. The company’s “Nothing But Crust” product, which sold out online around Christmas, has now been added to its product lines on a permanent basis, and will be available at retailers around the Chicago area.

Saw that the other day and it's a great idea. We had a group of friends over and ordered pizza. One had dairy issues (as does one of our kids) so we ordered one pizza par-baked with sauce only. Took a minute to explain it clearly when we placed the order but we then added non-dairy cheese and finished baking when it arrived. Nice to have the option of a good crust ready at a moment's notice.

Today's post on Rao's sale elsewhere on this site reminded me that I picked up their frozen pizza at Mariano's the other day. Decent crust and overall a pretty good frozen pizza but the proportions seemed off. Hard to tell from the box photo but when it's sliced the cornicione seems disproportionately large relative to the topped portion of the pizza. Possibly just my perspective but it seemed like it was more appropriately sized for a larger pizza.*

    Image

*I had the same impression of the Giordano's personal-size stuffed pizza (it's been years since I had one, so it may be different now) the crust was the same thickness as on the full-size and it just threw off the proportions. Again, just possibly my gripe (and I also have the same issue with the over/under-sized Reese's peanut butter cups. Once you scale it throws the proportions off).

DiGiorno is releasing a Thanksgiving pizza for a limited time only beginning Nov. 1, 2023.

I don't know if this sounds good or not? Not sure if an entire thanksgiving dinner belongs on a pizza but I understand retail is a competitive game of marketing and with the internet age hitting on a viral topic is gold for business.

    Image
The DiGiorno Thanksgiving Pizza “delivers all the Thanksgiving favorites in one bite, no matter how you slice it.”

The pizza is Detroit-style — thick, chewy and rectangular — and is comprised of a creamy gravy sauce, diced sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberries and, obviously, sliced turkey. The whole pie is topped with mozzarella and cheddar cheese and crispy onions.

It’s all the sides you know and may or may not love served in a non-traditional amalgamation of flavors.

Kimberly Holowiak, Senior Brand Manager for DiGiorno, said the company is always looking for “unique ways” to incorporate its pizza offerings with important celebrations.

    Oh, I bet I know.

This might be the best pizza ever to grace our planet.
But, I've had Thanksgiving meals at several different families' gatherings.
I've also had Digiorno frozen pizza.

The odds are certainly stacked up against it being satisfying in any way.

I happened to see Candlelight frozen pizza at D&D in Evanston the other day. They have both red and white. Curious if anyone has given this a try?

Frozen pizza from Candlelite has been available to order at Spiteful Brewing for several months. They pop it in whatever heating device they're using and boom, delicious pizza with great beer. I'd imagine what you saw is what Spiteful has.

That's where I first had it, on a fishing trip with my parents in Hayward WI. Seemed great at the time.

Maybe not "great" but certainly better. I have a distinct memory of fennel in the sauce. It got dumbed-down over time and certainly as a consequence of national expansion. The original owner started a new venture, Pep's, but their sauce is definitely different. Some good combo's though: https://pepspizzaco.com/our-pizzas/drafthaus/

That's exciting, I love Candlelite. Wonder if it's sold anywhere else retail.

I was at Jewel on Touhy Ave. in Niles and on a whim I saw and impulse bought a new frozen pizza on sale for $9.99 (regular $12.99) made in Italy distributed by the Italian brand Racconto called 'Margherita Pizza' brand. I bought the Proscutto Cotto E Funghi offering and it was honestly the best tasting frozen pizza i've tried so far. literally tasted like something you buy at a fancy pizza shop like BONCI with fresh flavors with slightly crispy charred crust.

Tried the Screamin Sicilian Detroit style tonight for the first time. Great? No. Pretty good? We thought so. Not a style I crave with regularity, but nice to mix in every once in awhile. We doctored it up with some fennel seeds, chili flakes and Parmesan.

Not pizza, but frozen stromboli made by Pizzeria Uno.

I saw this in the reduced price section at Mariano's at $1.85, so what the heck!

Instead of going in the freezer, it ended up defrosting in the refrigerator. This stromboli comes fully cooked and wrapped in cellophane, then tucked into a box.

I microwaved the Italian style meat with "Signature crust with mozzarella cheese, sliced pepperoni, ham, mortadella and salami." I heated it in the microwave under the 'dinner plate' setting for 3.5 minutes. I let it cool for several minutes before cutting into it.

This was pretty good 'sandwich,' especially because it was prebaked. The baking instructions from frozen may be overkill: 32-35 minutes at 375 degrees.

I like Motor City Pizza at Costco, often buy it and doctor it up a bit.

I had a special request from a friend to bring a Lou Malnati Salad for a party. When I went to pick up the salad, the Tinley Park location offered several packaged frozen pizzas. I decided to try the thick spinach and cheese pie. Brought it home and tossed it in freezer. A few weeks later, I read the directions; which I followed to a T. This pizza was delish! Be it frozen or take out. It was very good and I was very surprised. It was however pricey. Cheaper to do take out. Especially with doordash or Uber Eats pick up deals!!

It's not really a great option if you have a restaurant nearby. We send these out to relatives on the East Coast (nephew is gluten-sensitive so their GF options are great). When our kids were away at college this was also a nice taste of home.

It was a very good frozen pizza. Of course if you can go to the restaurant, it will be better. This thread isnt about instore pizzas, but the frozen take home and bake kind. So in that vein, this frozen pizza is better than home run inn, tombstone, and most other frozen offerings I have tried!

Reminds me of picking up Due's frozen pizzas sometimes before taking the train down to visit my dad in Springfield. Was a treat for him without coming up here. Not sure if they still do that or not, I can't say I'm in River North all that often.
